An apartment fire on Evansville’s North Side sent a resident to the hospital.

In a news release, EFD Division Chief Mike Larson said the occupant of 3955 Vista Drive ran to the apartment complex office to report the fire at about 9:40 Thursday morning.

Crews arrived three minutes later and found flames coming from the front of the two-story building.

They extinguished the fire in less than 20 minutes.

AMR took the occupant to Deaconess Midtown for smoke inhalation.

The fire also displaced the resident, who safely removed two pets from the burning apartment.

No firefighter injuries reported.

Larson said the blaze caused heavy damage to the first floor and a stairway.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
