At least three southwest Indiana drivers began the New Year in jail.

Indiana State Police increased their patrols and targeted dangerous and impaired drivers on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

In a release, the ISP said troopers at the Evansville District arrested three impaired drivers.

They said one of them, 36-year-old Isaac Schmitt of Vincennes, had a blood alcohol content of .35% -- four times the legal limit.

The ISP also arrested 32-year-old Robert Daugherty of Petersburg and 27-year-old Kenan Bajzath (buzz-ATH) of Elberfeld.

More than 900 crashes were reported in Indiana during the New Year’s holiday last year, injuring more than 170 people and killing four.
