Teen Shot Dead; No Charge Against Shooter

File

No charges have been filed following a fatal shooting in Evansville.

Evansville Police were dispatched to the 2200 block of N. Fulton Avenue at 10:45 Monday night for a report of shots fired.

In a release, the EPD says officers found 18-year-old DeAndre Ellington wounded on the sidewalk.

Ellington was taken to Deaconess Midtown Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

EPD Sgt. Jason Cullum said officers learned Ellington had met with several people to sell a handgun.

The witnesses told police Ellington pointed a gun at the group and tried to rob them.

One of the intended victims was armed with a handgun and fired several times in response to Ellington’s actions.

The EPD said officers interviewed the person they believe shot Ellington and that person has not been charged with a crime.

Two handguns were found on the ground next to Ellington. Investigators collected the guns along with the weapon used by the intended victim.

Anyone with more information on the fatal shooting is asked to call the EPD or the WeTip line at 800-78-CRIME.
