Woman Accused of Intentionally Crashing Car with Child Inside

VCSO

Authorities say a traffic crash on Evansville’s West Side was an intentional act.

The wreck happened just before noon Sunday on Diamond Avenue near St. Joe Avenue.

A release from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says deputies found a westbound car had veered through the median, across the eastbound lanes, and down a steep embankment into a wooded area.

Deputies said the car was occupied by the driver, the driver's boyfriend, an adult male passenger, and the eight month old daughter of the driver and her boyfriend.

One adult passenger was taken to a hospital. No other injuries required immediate medical attention.

The sheriff’s office said deputies recognized indications that the crash was an intentional act by the driver as part of an incident of domestic violence.

As a result, deputies arrested 20-year-old Alexis Rodgers of Evansville for a variety of charges associated with domestic battery and criminal recklessness.

Rodgers was jailed without bond, pending her court appearance Monday.
