Police Chase Ends When Car Hits Pole

ISP

A police chase ended in a crash in Vanderburgh County.

Indiana State Police say troopers received information that 23-year-old Levi Martin of Evansville was possibly attempting suicide somewhere in the Blue Grass area south of Elberfeld.

Troopers responded to the area and they spotted Martin's car on St. John Road at about 9:30 last (Wed) night.

In a release, the ISP says a trooper stopped the vehicle on St. John south of Baseline Road, but then Martin continued north accelerating to about 80 mph before driving west on Seven Hills Road into Vanderburgh County.

Police say Martin traveled on several county roads before troopers were able to deploy stop sticks on Old State Road at Volkman Road.

The sticks deflated two of the car’s tires, slowing Martin down.

Police say he crashed into a utility pole at Inglefield Road, and refused to get out the car.

An ISP K-9 was deployed but police say Martin continued to resist and used the vehicle’s door to strike the dog.

A trooper tased Martin before finally taking him into custody.

Martin faces charges of Resisting Law Enforcement, Driving While Intoxicated, and Reckless Driving.
