Man Flees Sheriff's Deputies

VCSO

Authorities are looking for a man who escaped police custody in Vanderburgh County.

In a release, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office said deputies went to a home in the Grandin Pointe neighborhood early today (Fri), looking for a suspect in an alleged assault.

The sheriff’s office said the suspect, 27-year-old Anthony Patrick Jones, tried to flee out of the back door but quickly retreated back inside upon being confronted by deputies positioned outside.

Officers searched the home and found Jones, whom they say had armed himself with a knife and hidden in a small bathroom.

The sheriff’s office said Jones fought with deputies as he was taken into custody and while he was being escorted to a patrol car, he broke free and sprinted away in handcuffs.

Deputies gave chase, but quickly lost sight of him.

Jones managed to avoid capture following a search by deputies, Evansville Police officers, and a sheriff's K-9.

Jones is described as a 27 year old white man, 5-feet 8-inches tall, and weighing about 150 pounds.

He’s bald with a goatee.

Jones was last seen fleeing from deputies in the 6000 block of Maggie Valley Drive wearing a brown coat and camouflage pants.

Anyone with information on Jones’ whereabouts is urged to call the sheriff’s office or 9-1-1.
