Wednesday was the hottest October day in Evansville weather history.
The National Weather Service recorded a high of 95 Wednesday afternoon, topping the previous record of 94 set in 1953.
It was the hottest temperature recorded in Evansville during October since the weather service started keeping records in 1897.
The record came just days after the agency reported that the temperature reached at least 80 degrees every day in September.
The heat has been accompanied by a dry spell.
The weather service measured just eight-tenths of an inch of rain in September in Evansville.
The region normally receives 3-to-4 inches of rain during the month.
