Police: Suspect Stole Truck, Crashed In River

Authorities are searching the Ohio River for a man who’s missing after a police pursuit.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says deputies investigated a truck that had been stolen and crashed through fencing at David Enterprises on Hogue Road early Friday morning.

About twenty minutes later, deputies responded to a hit and run crash in the campground at Burdette Park involving a truck that matched the description of the stolen vehicle.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said Evansville police officers spotted the suspect vehicle on the Lloyd Expressway near Fulton Avenue.

The EPD tried to stop the truck near Ohio Street and the Ray Becker Parkway, but the driver refused to stop and a pursuit began.

The chase continued onto Old Henderson Road, where the driver eventually steered the truck down a river bank and into the Ohio.

The sheriff’s office said the driver fled further into the water to evade capture.

Water rescue personnel from Perry Township and Henderson County searched for the suspect, who was still missing at midday Friday.

The Vanderburgh County Emergency Management Agency provided an aerial search.
