An accident has claimed the life of a coal miner in western Kentucky.
A statement from the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet says 39-year-old Jeremy Elder of Providence died in a vehicle accident inside Warrior Coal’s Cardinal Mine in Madisonville.
It happened Thursday afternoon and all mining operations were shut down in the accident area.
An investigation continues.
The agency says the death was Kentucky's fourth coal mining fatality this year.
In the statement, Warrior Coal’s Bill Adelman said “our thoughts and prayers” are with Elder’s family.
