Five Burned In East Side Apartment Fire

Five people, including three children, suffered burns in an apartment fire in Evansville.

Firefighters were dispatched to Grand Oak Apartments in the 1700 block of Clayton Avenue at about 6:20 Thursday evening.

In a news release, the EFD says when firefighters arrived, they found all seven occupants of the apartment had gotten out.

But of those occupants, five had been burned.

Firefighters helped the injured and AMR transported them to St. Vincent Hospital.

The EFD says firefighters tracked the fire to the kitchen and quickly extinguished the flames.

The five injured included an 18-year-old girl and a 59-year-old woman who were taken to St. Vincent and then airlifted to a Louisville hospital.

The EFD says a 10-year-old girl was taken to St. Vincent and then flown to an Indianapolis hospital.

Two two-year-old boys were being treated at St. Vincent.

There’s no word on the names of the injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
