Mt. Vernon To Receive Grant For Water Work

Mt. Vernon is among 17 Indiana communities to receive a share of more than $10.5 million in federal grants.

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs announced the Community Development Block Grants.

They include $700,000 for drinking water system improvements in Mt. Vernon.

In a news release, officials say the project will replace 4,500 linear feet of 133-year old cast iron water mains between Main Street and Wolflin Street and on Wolflin between 8th and 4th streets.

The second round of the statewide block grant program begins next week with proposals due October 4, and final applications due November 22.
