The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor says an anonymous tip led to the arrest and eventual conviction of a meth dealer.
A jury found 42-year-old Samuel Newbold guilty of numerous drug offenses Thursday afternoon following a lengthy investigation into suspected drug dealing activity in an Evansville neighborhood.
A news release from the prosecutor’s office says it took the jury less than 15 minutes to convict Newbold of multiple felonies, after a two-day trial.
Newbold also pleaded guilty to being a Habitual Offender, which could add up to 20 years on his prison sentence.
In February, an anonymous call to the WeTip line alerted law enforcement to possible drug activity at an apartment in the 1200-hundred block of East Maryland Street in Evansville.
The following day, detectives executed a search warrant and seized more than 132 grams of methamphetamine, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Prosecutor Nick Hermann said the call to the hotline led to a “successful take-down of a large methamphetamine dealer in our community.”
Hermann said the support of citizens can help rid the streets of illegal drugs “one call at a time.”
Newbold’s sentencing was scheduled for August 8th.
