Wrong-Way Driver Hits Police Cruiser

ISP

A wrong-way driver hit a state trooper’s patrol car on I-64.

In a news release, Indiana State Police say they received word that a car was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the interstate, east of Lynnville, late Saturday night.

Two troopers responded to the area and one spotted the vehicle, engaged his emergency lights and siren, but the driver refused to stop.

About one minute later, another trooper drove his patrol car into the eastbound lanes to warn eastbound motorists -- and to try to stop the wrong way driver.

Moments later, police said the wrong-way driver hit the patrol car.

The driver was identified as 52-year-old Angela Ayer of Dale.

Police said she had a blood alcohol content of .23%.

She refused medical treatment and was taken to the Warrick County Jail.

The state trooper was not injured.

No other vehicles were involved.
