There’s still no word on the identity of human remains found Monday on Evansville’s southeast side.

The remains were found in the Ohio River bottoms off S. Weinbach Avenue, south of I-69.

Evansville Police said in a tweet that a fire department rescue squad was called to the scene to “retrieve the victim.”

In an email, the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office said authorities are working on a presumed identity but a positive ID has not been made.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

There’s no word yet on whether foul play is suspected.
