Progress for Lloyd Pool’s replacement is coming along swimmingly. The Evansville parks board of commissioners awarded a construction management contract to an Indiana-based company at a meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Garmong Construction Services will manage the building of the Deaconess Aquatics Center. The parks board approved the contract at the recommendation of parks director Brian Holtz.

Holtz says a handful of companies responded to a request for proposals.

"I think one of the reasons we went with Garmong is their connection to the local community," he says. "Also obviously their price and also the work they’ve done in the past. Their history fit with what we were looking for."

Jeremy Kunz, a Garmong regional manager, told park commissioners that the firm has some experience with pools. He said it recently managed a similar construction project for the school corporation in Terre Haute. He said the project had a $12 million-price tag.

Holtz says the Deaconess Aquatic Center is still on track for an August 2020 completion date. The $28 million-project next to Garvin Park will include pools for competitive and recreational swimming
