Snow, blowing snow, and bitter cold temperatures prompted school and business closings across the Tri-State.
Arctic air plunged into the Evansville area Tuesday night, accompanied by about an inch of snow and sub-zero wind chills.
The harsh conditions prompted officials to close most schools in the area, including Evansville public, Catholic, and Day schools, along with Warrick, Posey, Gibson, Henderson, Daviess (Davis), and Owensboro schools.
UE, USI, and Ivy Tech were also closed Wednesday.
Downed power lines left more than 500 Vectren customers in the Newburgh area without electricity for several hours in single-digit weather Wednesday morning.
Crews worked to clear snow from area roads, but bitter cold temperatures and blowing snow made the effort difficult.
Temperatures are expected to bounce back above freezing on Friday and well above normal over the weekend.
In the meantime, forecasters were expecting another round of light snow or flurries Wednesday night, and a wintry mix Thursday night.
