The weekend snowstorm cancelled church services on Sunday and closed some schools Monday.
When rain changed to sleet and snow Saturday evening, road conditions quickly deteriorated.
The National Weather Service says 2-to-3 inches of snow fell in the immediate Evansville area, but higher amounts were reported in many areas – including Gibson County.
6 to 8 inches piled up in Princeton.
Road conditions prompted officials to cancel classes Monday at South, North, and East Gibson schools.
Evansville Day School and Mt. Vernon schools were also closed Monday.
The weather service said measuring the snowfall accurately was a challenge, due to strong winds which caused blizzard-like conditions.
The agency says Marion, Illinois saw thundersnow.
The temperature is forecast to stay below freezing until Tuesday, when rain is expected to move into the area.
The rain is expected to mix with sleet and snow on Wednesday.
