Two Rescued From Floodwater, Arrested

Two men were rescued from floodwaters in the Dogtown area, and then taken to jail.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Union Township river bottoms early Saturday to check on a vehicle that was adrift in high water.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office says deputies found a pickup truck partially submerged nearly two hundred yards from Old Henderson Road near Golden Rule Road.

Perry Township Firefighters launched a water rescue and were able to retrieve both men.

The sheriff’s office says 26-year-old Brandon Baumgart of Evansville and 24-year-old Seth Elderkin of Wadesville refused medical treatment and were arrested for public intoxication.

During his arrest, deputies said Baumgart became physically combative so he was also charged with resisting a law enforcement officer.

The sheriff’s office says Old Henderson Road is clearly marked with signs indicating it’s closed due to high water.

Authorities urge motorists to never drive into high water, regardless of whether it’s standing or moving or even if you’re familiar with the roadway.
