A small amount of snow and sub-freezing temperatures led to accidents and school closings in the Tri-State Wednesday morning.
The National Weather Service measured just seven-one hundredths of an inch of precipitation – less than an inch of snow – at Evansville Regional Airport.
But the combination of precipitation and sub-freezing temperatures put ice on some roadways, especially bridges and overpasses.
Numerous accidents were reported along I-69 and I-64, including a jackknifed semi on 64 near the Wabash River in Posey County.
A head-on crash shut down the U.S. 60 Bridge at Spottsville in Henderson County for a while.
The icy conditions prompted a number of school delays and even some closings – including schools in Gibson, Pike, and Hancock counties.
The weather service says the next chance of significant snowfall in the Evansville area is Saturday night.
