HPD Launches "Sobering" Campaign

Police agencies are gearing up for the holidays.

In a news release, the Henderson Police Department says it’s joining with law enforcement throughout the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, starting Friday through New Year’s Day.

The HPD says the impaired driving crackdown will include high-visibility enforcement, high-profile events, and will be supported by national paid advertising.

In the release, Officer Jennifer Richmond says police “aggressively watch for drunk drivers year-round” but by joining this effort, she says the HPD will make Henderson’s roadways “safer for everyone during the heavily-traveled Christmas holiday.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says high-visibility enforcement like the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign reduces alcohol-impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent.

There were more than 3,900 total collisions involving alcohol in Kentucky last year, resulting in more than 1,800 injuries and 121 fatalities.

Richmond says if someone chooses to drive while drunk, they will be arrested – “no warnings, no excuses.”
