An officer with the Evansville Police Department (EPD) was injured Wednesday morning during an investigation.
Police say the unnamed officer was called to investigate a suspicious person outside Fairlawn Elementary School around 6:50 a.m.
A fight occurred when the officer tried to handcuff the man, named Logan Stidham.
Stidham was able to take the officer’s TASER and discharge it in the officer’s face.
The officer went to a local hospital for treatment but has since been released.
Stidham was checked out at a hospital before he was sent to the Vanderburgh County Jail. He’s facing five charges including trespassing, resisting law enforcement, and battery with a deadly weapon.
A Fairlawn school employee called 911 after Stidham said he had a child in day care at the school, which police say the employee knew was false.
Police say Stidham was uncooperative and refused to follow the officer’s instructions.
Police say Stidham continued to ignore officer orders and was subdued with additional force after more officers arrived.
Police say the incident took place well before classes began and no student was involved.
