State seeking comment on proposed Chandler water rate hike

Chandler water customers have an opportunity to comment on a proposed water rate increase.

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is reviewing the town’s request to raise the rate for a residential customer who uses 5,000 gallons of water from just under $30 to $43 a month.

The utility is also seeking state approval to issue up to $29.2 million in long-term debt.

A release from the OUCC says it would be the first water rate increase for Chandler since 2010, and would help cover increasing operating and maintenance costs, as well as needed capital improvements.

You can comment online at www.in.gov/oucc or by fax at 317-232-5923.

The consumer counselor is scheduled to file testimony with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission on August 10.

Chandler’s municipal water utility serves more than 19,000 people in southwestern Warrick County.
