New UE president visits campus, looks forward

The incoming president of UE paid a visit to the campus, less than two months before he takes office.

The University of Evansville’s Board of Trustees chose Christopher Pietruszkiewicz -- pronounced "pet-ruh-SKEV-ich" -- as its new president in March.

He met with members of the news media Wednesday, saying his first goal is to listen…

"Making sure that I hear lots of the different voices that are happening on campus. So, today is the first part of that process, being on campus and spending a couple hours with our faculty, our staff, and ultimately our students."

Pietruszkiewicz noted that enrollment is up at UE, in part because the faculty is involved in recruitment…

"It is delightful when you see students come on campus and have an opportunity to be able to meet the faculty when they come on campus for the first time, not waiting for the first time they show up in class."

Pietruszkiewicz said he’s already spoken to the city’s other university president-elect, USI’s Ron Rochon, about working together…

"I'm sure there's lots more ways that we can figure out how to do that. And the committment from both of us is that when I get back on campus on July 1st, we'll find some time to sit down and see if we can find other ways we  can collaborate."

UE, USI, and IU are c ollaborating on the downtown medical school, recently named the Stone Family Center for Health Sciences.

Pietruszkievicz is currently the dean of the Stetson University College of Law in Florida.
