A Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputy captured a fleeing felon, with the help of a borrowed bicycle.
In a news release, the sheriff office said Deputy Ryan Barrett was trying to capture 29-year-old Jonathan Adams -- who was spotted at the Vanderburgh County Courts Building last week.
Adams was wanted on a probation warrant.
The sheriff’s office said he ignored commands to stop and deputies began chasing him on foot.
During the pursuit, a citizen at Locust and Martin Luther King offered Deputy Barrett his bicycle.
Barrett -- who was in “Class A” uniform which includes a tie -- took the citizen up on the offer and began peddling after the suspect.
Barrett and a responding Evansville Police officer converged on Adams at the corner of Cherry Street and 10th Street, and took him into custody.
He faces a charge of Resisting Law Enforcement.
Sheriff Dave Wedding said local officers are, “Fortunate to enjoy a high level of community trust."
He praised the community's faith in its law enforcement members.
