Charges brought in online school threat

A Central High School student said he was trying to get school canceled Friday. Now, he’s facing a felony charge for allegedly making a social media post threatening violence at an Evansville high school.

In a Facebook post Friday afternoon, Evansville police said 18-year-old Brandon Lee Jones admitted to making the post when they confronted him at school Friday. The social media post, made under the name of Kaleb Jenson Thursday evening read, “Since Florida lost some people, it’s time for somebody else so I’m shooting up one of the Evansville high schools tomorrow.”

Police said they got a tip and traced the threatening comment to an address in Vanderburgh County. Jones told police that he had missed so much school that he was concerned he would be referred to court if he missed any more days.

Jones is being booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail. He's facing a felony intimidation charge and a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge. Police do not believe anyone else was involved in making the threat.

Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation officials released a statement Friday afternoon. They praised the quick work of Evansville police. The statement says they were aware of the threat and precautionary measures were taken at all EVSC high schools Friday. Private high school officials in Vanderburgh County were also notified.
