Officials are taking on mosquitoes in Evansville.
The Vanderburgh County Health Department says it will spray to reduce the mosquito population Wednesday evening in a near-downtown neighborhood.
The spraying or fogging – called adulticiding – is planned for the area bounded by Washington Avenue, Highway 41, S. Garvin St., and Covert Avenue.
The health department says the area is seeing “significant mosquito activity.”
The West Nile Virus has not been detected in Vanderburgh County this summer, but the health department says 24 Indiana counties have detected the virus.
Officials recommend limiting time outdoors between dusk and dawn; wear light clothing, pants, and long sleeves; use insect repellant; and make sure your property is free of standing water, where mosquitoes breed.
