Mosquitoes targeted on Evansville's Southeast Side

Centers for Disease Control

Crews will spray to kill mosquitoes this week on Evansville’s Southeast Side.

The Vanderburgh County Health Department says in a news release that the spraying – known as adulticiding – is planned for Thursday evening in the area bounded by Kentucky Avenue, Washington Avenue, Lodge Avenue, and I-69.

The spraying is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. to midnight, weather permitting.

The health department says two sample groups of mosquitoes collected in Vanderburgh County have tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

Positive sample groups have been reported in 36 Indiana counties.

Officials urge you to limit time outdoors between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active; wear light-colored clothing with pants and long sleeves when possible; use insect repellant containing DEET, Picaridin, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus; and keep your property free of standing water – where mosquitoes breed.
