Vincennes is among a half-dozen Indiana cities chosen as finalists for a “Stellar Community” designation.
Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch announced the six communities who are Division 1 and Division 2 finalists in the 2017 competition.
Division 1 is for towns with a population of 6,000-to-50,000. Vincennes is among the three finalists in that division, along with Madison and Greensburg.
Division 2 is for smaller towns, and the finalists are Churubusco, Culver, and Union City.
The competition is in its 6th year with the goal of supporting community planning and development initiatives by streamlining access to available funding and building resources.
Crouch says in a news release that the program is committed to having a “true impact throughout smaller communities across Indiana.”
Officials evaluated letters from interested cities and towns before choosing the top six finalists.
One community from each division will be named a 2017 Stellar Communities Designee later this summer.
