A wrong-way crash on Interstate 64 in Spencer County has killed a Virginia man.

State police say it happened Wednesday night about 3 miles west of Ferdinand.

A news release from ISP says 56-year-old Sabrina Felton of Roanoke was driving eastbound on the highway, and had passed a tractor-trailer when she encountered a vehicle driven by 89-year-old Rueben Boswell of Henderson.

Police say Boswell was driving westbound on I-64 in the eastbound passing lane.

Felton tried to avoid Boswell by driving her car into the median but was unable to avoid collision.

The front seat passenger in Felton’s vehicle, 34 year old Brandon Taylor of Roanoke, had to be extricated from the car and was flown by LifeFlight to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, where he died from his injuries.

Felton and Boswell were both taken to St. Mary’s with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities shut down I-64 for nearly four hours while troopers investigated the crash.

Troopers were assisted the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Ferdinand and Santa Claus police departments, and Dubois and Spencer county EMS.
