Local authorities say they’ve taken more than 50 pounds of synthetic marijuana off the streets.

Members of the Narcotics Task Force say they seized the drug, known as K-2, after stopping a car on Kratzville Road in Evansville Tuesday afternoon.

A news release from the task force says officers arrested 22-year-old Gabriel Appel of Evansville on preliminary charges of possessing and dealing synthetic cannabinoids.

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Appel’s home on Hawaii Drive, and police say they found more than 50 pounds of the drug.

Last week, police arrested 36-year-old Tarone Johnson for allegedly dealing the substance.

Police said they confiscated 110 grams of the illegal drug and drug dealing paraphernalia from Johnson.

The arrests follow an investigation into recent overdoses of synthetic pot.
