Convention hotel opens on Valentine's Day

John Gibson

It’s official. Evansville’s new Downtown convention hotel will open Tuesday, Feb. 14th.

Officials say a ribbon will be cut for the 240-room Double Tree by Hilton at 10:00 a.m. Valentine’s Day.

The opening follows a final inspection of the 5-story hotel on Walnut St. by Hilton officials this week.

The $61 million facility includes pedestrian bridges connecting the hotel to the city’s convention center, Old National Events Plaza, and Evansville’s largest arena, the Ford Center.

The convention center has been without an adjacent hotel since the Executive Inn closed in 2009.

In a news release, hotel general manager Tracy Wiley says she’s “excited” to work with the city and the Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring conventions and new visitors to Downtown Evansville.
