City officials have received construction drawings for a new convention hotel in Downtown Evansville.
The drawings – in a thick, table-length book -- were presented to the Redevelopment Commission Tuesday.
The hotel will be built on Walnut between MLK and 6th Street and will include a restaurant and bar, conference space, and an outdoor swimming pool.
The planned Hilton DoubleTree was scaled back from a ten-story design to five stories, when private financing for the larger plan fell short. The number of hotel rooms fell slightly from 244 to 240.
The current $61 million plan relies on $20 million in public funding.
The project also includes a parking garage and streetscape improvements. The commission approved a design change for the streetscapes around the planned hotel and the IU School of Medicine.
