Few students watch Trump inauguration at USI

John Gibson

Some USI students watched the inauguration of President Trump on campus.

Only about 30 students turned out to watch a live stream of the inauguration in USI’s Carter Hall, while others watched on TVs in dining areas.

USI Vice President Julie Brinker says students had lots of options, including their own devices.

Student Donna Ewart watched the swearing-in, and was excited about Trump’s message of making America “great again.”

Daniel McMurtry is President of USI’s College Republican and was the only person wearing a red hat in Carter Hall. He says he’s hopeful but skeptical. McMurtry described himself as a constitutional conservative.

At least one Trump opponent watched the event in Carter Hall. Zach Litherland says he’s concerned about the new president’s foreign policy. He asks how can Trump fight terrorism abroad while focusing on "America first."
