Online threats prompted Evansville-Vanderburgh school officials to cancel classes and athletic events at Central High School Friday.
The EVSC says it closed the school due to “the amount of rumors and speculation on social media about potential threats.”
Officials say the rumors, speculation, and threats are an “outgrowth” of the tragedy earlier this week and a “heightened sense of alarm.”
Former student Roman Kellough was found shot to death outside the school Tuesday morning. His death was ruled a suicide.
Evansville Police say they’re investigating online posts and identifying people responsible for them.
Anyone with information on the individuals making threats is asked to call the EPD.
Police say additional steps are being taken to ensure the safety of all EVSC students and staff.
