Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell fielded questions on a number of topics during his visit to Henderson this week.
The top Republican in the Senate spoke to a joint meeting of the Henderson Lions and Rotary Clubs, weighing in on everything from I-69 to the future of Social Security and Medicare.
McConnell was asked about funding for an I-69 bridge connecting Henderson and Evansville. He warned “earmarks aren’t coming back,” but he said there are funds available in the five-year federal highway bill, but bridge projects across the country can compete for them.
As for preserving Social Security and Medicare, McConnell said eligibility ages must be raised, as life expectancy rises. He says sticking to old formulas "can't work."
And don’t look to McConnell for college debt relief. He says he's not in favor of forgiving student loan debts.
McConnell also defended his stance that the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court should be filled by the next president, not President Obama.
