Toyota Indiana promotes community outreach

Toyota Indiana celebrated 20 years of production at its Princeton plant Wednesday afternoon.  During the event, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana Norm Bafunno spoke on how the plant has impacted the region's economy and community.

As one of the region's largest employers, he said the plant has a responsibility to not only support community organizations financially, but to actively volunteer.

Team members at Toyota Indiana have recorded more than 250,000 hours of community service over the years, Bafunno said.

Amy Lindsey has been a team member at Toyota Indiana for 14 years, and said the company’s community work has a far reach.

When Lindsey’s daughter was in middle school, her school received new computers through a grant from Toyota, she said.

“Not only just as an individual what we do, but what we do even outside of work or even through work, it impacts really our whole tristate area,” Lindsey said.

At the end the celebration, two local non-profits, Aurora Inc. and the Gibson County Council on Aging, each received a free Sienna minivan.
