Wesselman fee starts Tuesday

John Gibson

The head of Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve says charging a fee to visit the preserve is needed to sustain and grow.

It will cost $5 for persons ages 13 and older to enter the nature preserve and $3 for ages 3-12, starting Tuesday. Children younger than three will be admitted free.

Wesselman Woods Executive Director John Scott Foster tells WNIN that the facility needs the revenue. He says the facility is "running as fast as (it) can to stay in the same place."

Foster says annual family passes are available for $40, and passes will also be available at public libraries.

The Evansville Parks Board unanimously approved the new fees last month.

The preserve opened its renovated nature center Thursday.
