A ribbon has been cut, opening the renovated nature center at Wesselman Woods.
Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke cut the ribbon, allowing dozens of students from Harper Elementary School to go inside.
He told the kids that the community raised $1.5 million for the renovation. Nature Society Executive Director John Scott Foster asked the kids a few questions, like "do you like being outside? do you like animals? do you like big, huge trees?"
The kids -- and the mayor -- all held up their hands.
Foster also told WNIN that visitors will learn more about the old growth forest from the new exhibits.
Officials plan to open a “playscape” in the woods this fall.
Admission to the nature center and the woods will be $5, starting next Tuesday.
Annual family memberships are available for $40.
