Winter energy assistance ends

The moratorium on disconnecting customers enrolled in the Indiana Home Energy Assistance Plan ends Tuesday.

The Energy Assistance Plan helps low-income households keep the heat on during the winter months.

But now that winter is ending, so is the assistance.

Utility companies throughout the state will begin disconnecting customer services on Wednesday for those who haven't paid their utility bills.

Low income customers of Vectren and other utilities are encouraged to contact their utility for information on other financial assistance programs.

Utilities across Indiana say they have a number of options to help low-income residents.
