Evansville Regional Airport will soon join Owensboro in offering direct flights to Orlando, Florida.
Allegiant Air says it will offer two direct flights a week between Evansville and Orlando/Sanford International Airport, starting June 2nd.
The airline says prices for one-way flights start as low as $59.
The Orlando flights will be on MD-80 jet aircraft, which seat 166 people. Most flights at the Evansville airport are 50-seat jets.
The home of Disney World will become the local airport’s sixth direct destination, along with Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, and Dallas.
Mayor Winnecke calls Allegiant’s decision to set up shop in Evansville a “precursor to more great things” for Evansville Regional.
Allegiant Air already provides direct flights between Owensboro and Orlando. Officials say those flights will continue.
Evansville is one of three new cities the growing airline will serve. The others are Albuquerque, New Mexico and Sonoma, California.
