Airport to add jet way

Evansville Regional Airport is planning to add another enclosed jet way.

The airport’s Facebook page reveals plans for a third jet way – or jet bridge – to accommodate an increased number of passengers.

The enclosed bridges connect the terminal with aircraft, so passengers can board and deplane without exposure to the elements.

The airport says engineering and design plans are underway, and the project will be out for bids in November.

The jet bridge is expected to be installed by next summer.

The move follows United Airlines adding three daily flights to Chicago’s O’Hare International earlier this year, in addition to four flights already offered by American Airlines.

Airport officials said in February that United could add another hub to its Evansville schedule – possibly Houston – but only if enough people use the Chicago service.

Evansville Regional also offers daily flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, and Detroit.
