Kiefer to seek County Council seat

Vanderburgh County Commissioner Joe Kiefer is seeking a return to the County Council.

Kiefer announced last month that he would not seek another term on the commission. But Kiefer says he will file for an at-large seat on the Vanderburgh County Council Tuesday.

In a news release, the 53-year-old Republican says his time on the commission has served him well in understanding the needs of the county.

He’s also served as president of the Vanderburgh County Council, and was a member of the Evansville City Council from 1999 to 2007.

Republicans chose Kiefer to fill the commission seat vacated by Lloyd Winnecke, when he was elected Evansville Mayor in 2011.

Kiefer ran unopposed for the commission seat in the 2012 general election.

His private sector job is managing broker at Hahn Kiefer Real Estate Services.
