Republican Vanderburgh County Commissioner Joe Kiefer will not run for re-election next year.
Keifer says he’s taken over ownership and day-to-day operations of Hahn Kiefer Real Estate Services, and the increased responsibilities and his company’s success led to his decision.
But in a prepared statement, Kiefer doesn’t rule out the public sector. He says he will look for “other opportunities to serve our community.”
The GOP chose Kiefer to fill the commission seat vacated by Lloyd Winnecke, when he was elected Evansville Mayor in 2011.
Kiefer ran unopposed for the commission seat in 2012.
He’s also served as president of the Vanderburgh County Council, and was a member of the Evansville City Council from 1999 to 2007.
