Pence confident legislature will approve Regional Cities funds

Governor Mike Pence says he’s confident the General Assembly will approve $126 million for the three Regional Cities winners.

The governor visited Evansville Regional Airport, where money from the Regional Cities initiative is expected to help pay for improvements.

He tells WNIN that he believes the legislature will support all three winning regions, including the four-county Evansville area, despite a decline in sales tax revenue and lower revenue forecasts.

Pence says a recent tax amnesty program generated more revenue than expected – more than enough to fund the three Regional Cities winners.

The state had planned to split $84 million between two Regional Cities winners, but the Indiana Economic Development Corporation recommended dividing $126 million among three regions.
