Arrest made in gang shooting

A 17-year-old Evansville boy faces adult murder and attempted murder charges in the shooting death of another 17-year-old.

Evansville police have arrested Carltez Taylor for the gang-related shooting of Javion Wilson last weekend near Franklin Street and Second Avenue.

Police say a second juvenile was with Wilson at the time of the shooting, but was not hit.

EPD Sgt. Jason Cullum says the rise of “hybrid gangs” -- with little or no loyalty or hierarchy -- makes fighting gang activity difficult.

He says an EPD task force teaches students the reality of gang life, including the threat of violence and even death.

Cullum says last Saturday’s shooting was “the culmination of an ongoing dispute” between Taylor and Wilson, who were members of rival gangs the Fours and the Cream Team.
