An appliance company opening a plant in Evansville is looking for a sculpture to display outside its new facility.
Haier America will open it first technology center in the United States on Indiana Street, west of Willard Library, next year. And to celebrate the opening, the appliance-maker is commissioning an outdoor metal sculpture that will be visible from the Lloyd Expressway.
It will be displayed on the east side of the former Coca-Cola bottling plant, either on the ground or mounted on the wall.
Interested sculptors should call the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana.
Officials tell the Evansville Courier and Press that a committee will review the proposals and select up to three semifinalists. Each semifinalist will receive $350 to develop a concept proposal that will be used to choose the winner.
Haier will award a $25,000 commission to the winning sculptor, who’s expected to be selected in February.
