Indiana's Mail-In Ballot Request Deadline Is Thursday

Hoosiers who want to vote by mail in the upcoming election – and have a legal reason to do so – have just a few days left to request their mail-in ballot.

The end of the day on Thursday, Oct. 22 is the deadline to request an absentee vote-by-mail ballot. You can do so online at IndianaVoters.com or by contacting your county election administrator’s office.

There are about a dozen reasons you can legally cast a mail-in ballot in Indiana, including if you’re absent from your county or working the entire time polls are open Election Day or if you’re confined to your home due to illness or injury.

Republican state leaders decided fears about COVID-19 generally don’t count as a valid reason.

More than 500,000 Hoosiers have requested a mail-in ballot this election – that’s more than triple the number who did so in 2016.

And between vote-by-mail and early, in-person voting, nearly 600,000 Hoosiers have cast their ballot so far this fall. That's more than 20 percent of the total number of people who voted (both early and on Election Day) in 2016.
