Works by Edgar Allen Poe elicit thoughts of the macabre, scary and thrilling. Funny, not so much. But the cast of this fall’s production brought by the Newburgh Community Theater will bring a new lilt to some old Poe works in a one-act play, “The Poe Show.”
Written by Jonathan Yukich, produced by special arrangement with Eldridge publishing Company, the play is being directed by Stephanie Pettey and produced by Kevin Koch, both NCT veterans.
How many ways can something go awry when a group of patients at Sunnyvale Insane Asylum decide to put on an evening of Poe’s works for the public? Plenty.
With a dozen characters, and more phobias than you can think of, this zany production will take the audience through some of Poe’s classics, like “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven” and many more. Needless to say, there will be surprises and things will not always be as they seem.
The play, performed as dinner theater, will be presented four evenings at the Newburgh Masonic Lodge on Filmore St. Tickets for October 2, 3, 9 and 10 shows are on sale now through the theater group’s web site, newburghcommunitytheater.org. There are three menu choices for dinner.
Only 96 seats per performance are available, according to producer, Kevin Koch.
