Evansville Police have arrested Charles Hughes, 18, for allegedly damaging Flock Safety cameras in the city

Police have arrested a teen accused of damaging or destroying Flock cameras in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

The EPD says a motor patrol officer observed an electric scooter traveling south on Governor St. near Columbia on Monday without a headlight.

Police say the driver, 18-year-old Charles Hughes, also disregarded a traffic signal at Governor and Virginia streets.

The EPD says the officer stopped Hughes and found a collapsible ladder and a solar panel with a Flock logo in plain view.

Police say Hughes also had a backpack and duffel bag that had dozens of tools and numerous Flock camera components.

Investigators say they matched some of the components with recently damaged Flock cameras.

During the execution of a search warrant at Hughes’ residence, police say officers seized components for more than thirty Flock camera systems.

Police arrested Hughes on preliminarily charges of Theft, Criminal Mischief, and Disregarding a Traffic Signal.

The license plate-reading cameras have been praised by law enforcement as a helpful tool but some residents say they invade privacy and create a surveillance state.
