Opponents of Flock cameras packed last (Mon) night’s Evansville City Council meeting. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
The group De-Flock Evansville encouraged the community to attend the meeting and say “no” to continued funding for the surveillance system.
Both Evansville Police and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office use the license-plate reading cameras and say they have been helpful in tracking down offenders.
But the De-Flock group says the system infringes on privacy rights and the data has been abused across the country.
A number of Flock cameras have been vandalized in the Evansville area recently and police are investigating.
There’s no word of any arrests in the vandalism.
